Dear Students and GLSW families, 

In our 56th year, we are faced with unprecedented challenges, and we are very grateful to see your support.  We are honored to have you entrust your children to us for our "Saturday German School", and safety of our students and staff is our primary concern as we are finalizing our plans for re-opening with our host school, Saint John's Academy and the local board of health.

Currently, all classes are virtual as we continue to monitor the situation.  We hope to bring other classes back to the in-person classes as soon as possible. 

Our school has invested in technology to allow attendance of live-classes remotely should a student not be able to attend an in-person class.

General Membership Meeting on April 10th, 2021

Dear GLSW Community,

 

 

We hope you are all safe and well in these challenging times! We will hold our annual General Membership Meeting on April 10th, 2021. The meeting will start after the late classes at 1:45 PM and will obviously be held virtually via a Zoom meeting.

 

 

The purpose of our annual meeting is to present and discuss:

 

 

- developments during the current school year,

- the school’s finances,

- plans for the future,

- electing/re-electing a slate of trustees for the board, and

- Q & A

 

 

We welcome anyone who is interested to join the board and help us guide the school forward into the future. Please feel free to contact Marco Ziegler (Board Vice President; [email protected]) with any questions about what board membership entails.

 

 

We will provide a detailed agenda in advance of the meeting and look forward to seeing you virtually in our Zoom meeting!

Welcome to the German Language School of Westwood!

Welcome to the German Language School Westwood, located in Bergen County, New Jersey, just 13 miles from the George Washington Bridge. Our mission is to make learning German language and culture an enjoyable, rewarding experience for people of all ages and backgrounds.

We're a 54-year old non-profit school, serving more than 200 students and continuing to grow. Most of our classes are held on Saturdays, although some adult classes are offered on Wednesday and Thursday evenings, too.

What makes us successful?

Our curriculum is progressive and tailored to the individual student. Many of our teachers are from Germany and hold degrees from German universities. Our teachers aim to make learning fun and interesting. We offer small classes for children, teens and adults. Our students have diverse cultural backgrounds, and we offer adult programs for beginners as well as intermediate and advanced students.

Tutoring Available

Tutoring is available for those who need that extra bit of help with homework assignments or would like additional instruction outside of the regularly scheduled classes. Please contact us to discuss your requirements and our rates: [email protected].

Interested in teaching?

Mögen Sie Kinder? Do you speak German and have some teaching experience? We are looking for German teachers!

We need your help!

To help keep our tuition at a minimum, we rely on Volunteers. Every Family that has Saturday classes is kindly expected to sign up for 2 volunteer slots a year i.e. Hall Monitors, Set-Up, Support and Clean-Up for special activities and others.
