Cancellation of Weihnachtsfeier und Weihnachtsmarkt tomorrow!

Dear Students and Parents of Students,

Unfortunately we have to cancel the Weihnachtsfeier that was scheduled for tomorrow.

This cancellation is due to the Westwood School District's closure of the school until at least 11 am tomorrow because of expected bad weather. We will find another date for the theatre performance and likely will offer the items we had for sale at the Christmas market during our next scheduled school day January 7, 2017.

We wish our German School community a Merry Christmas, happy holidays and a happy, healthy 2017!

Frohe Weihnachten und ein glückliches Neues Jahr 2017!

Weihnachtsfeier und Weihnachtsmarkt

Hello Parents of Students and Students:

Saturday, December 17th the Galli Theatre will perform "Hans im Glück" in German. Afterwards, you are invited to sing traditional German Christmas songs and visit our Weihnachtsmarkt. The Weihnahtsmarkt will offer German books, toys, some local vendors, seasonal treats, and arts and crafts for the children.

YOUR support is needed to make this Weihnachtsmarkt the best it can be. Below are some ways to help:

  • Bake for a bake sale (recipes and packaging will be provided). Please bake approximately 600 grams/1.3 pounds, fill each bag with about 100 grams/3.5 ounces, write the name of the cookie and your name on the tag, bring to GLSW on December 17th and drop at the gym by 9am.
  • Donate (like) new German DVDs, books etc to be sold at the Weihnachtsmarkt (your donation is tax deductible)
  • Add your own table. Do you have your own business and want to sell your products that would be suitable for stocking stuffers, gifts, etc. Sign-up and we will provide a table that you are responsible to staff and supply. Set up at 9AM, market opens approximately 10:30 - noon. If you're so inclined, you may make a donation to the GLSW, but it is not required.

Please email info@germanschoolnj.org for any questions you may have.

German Language School Westwood

Announcement of new Principal

Dear Parents and Students:

The Board of the German Language School of Westwood is pleased to announce the appointment of Ms. Christine Gehres as Principal, effective immediately. You may be already familiar with Ms. Gehres, who has been volunteering as interim principal in Frau Lester's absence. Please join us in thanking her for the excellent job she has done during a challenging period. While no one can completely fill Frau Lester's shoes, the Board is excited by Ms. Gehres' vision and enthusiasm, and we look forward to working with her to move our school forward.

Thank you,
The Board

St. Martin's Day invitation - Laternenumzug!

Please join us on Friday, November 11 for our annual St. Martin's Day Celebration.

We will start assembling at Berkeley School at 6 pm, and leave with our lanterns for a short "parade" and singing in the neighborhood at 6.30 PM. There will be warm cider upon our return in the school cafeteria, and the families are encouraged to bring cookies or even bake the traditional "Weckmann" to share.

The story of St. Martin will be told.

We are looking forward to seeing you there! Your GLSW board.

Welcome to our school!
